“Christmas Joy Medley” is a brass quartet piece which
passionately embraces the spirit of Christmas, marked by a "joy to the
world" theme prevalent throughout the work.
When standard Christmas carols are performed as a medley, the fluid
transition from one carol to the next helps to create the sense of
togetherness and family that we so often associate with Christmas.
Carols can merge together in a warm medley, flowing effortlessly from
carol to carol with interesting modulations and thematic twists.
“Christmas Joy Medley” is a joyful piece. The
excitement and activity of Christmas time is reflected in this highly
contrapuntal arrangement by Eddie Lewis. Each musician in the
quartet has significant and moving lines, and the work is characterized
by baroque-like phrasing. There is certainly no sense of wasted
parts in this work. The arrangement was written for a strong first
trumpet and weaker supporting parts. The technical demands of the
first trumpet are quite advanced compared to the other parts.
“Christmas Joy Medley” is ideal for musicians at
college or professional level. It is suitable for Christmas
parties, church services, Christmas festivities in malls, airports, and
retirement homes, caroling for brass players, and Christmas concerts.
